About

SIMPLY PUT, BON MEANS GOOD.

Au Bon Pain. Simply put, it means, “from good bread.” Good bread is the foundation of a good meal. It is the key to a handcrafted sandwich, the essence of a sweet pastry, and the best way to turn a soup or salad into a meal. We pride ourselves on being a gourmet convenience where you live and work that offers good bread as the cornerstone of our marketplace. We’re not here to tell you what’s good for you to eat, that’s your choice. From delicious meals, to satisfying snacks or wholesome treats, food should always taste good, no matter if that choice is indulgent or nutritious; because life is about balance. A nourishing, delicious, balance. Au Bon Pain: From Good Bread.

Au Bon Pain is committed to making quality products using simple ingredients that you would find in your own kitchen. Ingredients like flour, salt, and sugar. This commitment to using the best ingredients is part of our heritage. We started making breads, pastries, and croissants using time-tested traditions while staying devoted to great flavors and recipes. This commitment extends to starting our day before the sun come up; baking our products fresh daily so that we can provide the best tasting food to our customers. We take our time, not yours. With good bread, it’s just that simple.

In the spring of 1978, businessman Louis Kane was strolling through Boston's historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace when he noticed a display showcasing a new line of French bakery ovens. The aromas of the fresh breads were so enchanting he had to buy one to put in his first store. Placing the oven in full view of the customers so they could see and smell the baking process was revolutionary at this time. Not only did customers flock for the fresh croissants, baguettes, and pastries, but they also brought something with them. Customers began asking Louis to slice breads in half, so they could make sandwiches with deli meats they brought from home. This sparked a new idea that brought about the Au Bon Pain you know and love. Today, there are over 250 Au Bon Pain café bakeries throughout the world, including 80 cafes in Thailand, growing to become a gourmet convenience where you live and work.
